The Ancient harbour in Kyrenia was opened after reconstruction for the 40th Anniversary of TRNC
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment of the TRNC shared photos of the ancient harbour of Kyrenia in social networks.
The old port was reopened to the public for the 40th anniversary of the founding of the TRNC. Repair works lasted for almost a year.
The ancient port of Girne is ready to carry the traces of the past into the future with its splendour and beauty on the 40th year of our Republic, - said the Ministry.
In the published footage the evening harbor looks deserted, but some people are already walking around.
Recall that work on the restoration of the old harbour in Kyrenia began on December 1, 2022. Originally scheduled to be completed in May, the opening date of the new harbour was moved to September and then to early October.
The delay in handing over the property caused much criticism from local traders and tourism workers, due to the effectively disrupted tourist season.
Despite all the negativity and criticism, we feel pride, excitement and joy in bringing the Ancient Port to the shine it deserves, says the Ministry in a statement.
