Two accidents in Northern Cyprus: pedestrians injured in Lefkoşa, driver injured in Famagusta
On January 25, 2026, two separate traffic accidents occurred in Northern Cyprus in Lefkoşa and Famagusta; the injured were taken to hospitals, and the drivers were detained.
At around 18:00 on Osmanpaşa Street in Lefkoşa, a car with license plate EJ 455, driven by E.K. (E-25), moving westward, struck pedestrians S.M. (E-22) and her nephew Z.G. (K-2) who were crossing the street. The injured were taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa. The child Z.G. was discharged after receiving care, while S.M. sustained a fracture of the right knee and is under observation in the orthopedic department. The driver E.K. was detained, and an investigation is ongoing.
At around 20:00 in Famagusta on İsmet İnönü Boulevard, a car with license plate GH 068, driven by S.K. (E-37) under the influence of alcohol (180 milligrams according to sources), moving southward and changing to the right lane, collided with car KM 739, driven by B.Y. (E-20). B.Y. went independently to Famagusta State Hospital, received first aid, and was discharged. The driver S.K. was detained; police continue the investigation.
