Ersin Tatar Announces Participation in 2025 Presidential Elections
The head of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar, has announced his candidacy for the 2025 presidential elections in the TRNC. Tatar believes he has "achieved a lot" during his four years as the leader of the Turkish Cypriots.
The current president of the TRNC made this announcement in an interview with a Turkish television channel.
"I have achieved a lot and I want to become president again for the next term," said Tatar. He also mentioned that he plans to seek support for his candidacy from various political parties.
"We have good relations: I have been in office for about four years, and I see that we have achieved a lot during this time. Our contacts continue," stated the Turkish Cypriot leader.
During his conversation with the press, Tatar also emphasized that "with Turkey's support, the two-state solution model will gain wider acceptance and become a hope for Turkish Cypriots."
Ersin Tatar served as prime minister starting in 2019, following the collapse of Tufan Erhürman's coalition government. In 2020, he ran in the TRNC presidential elections as the candidate of the National Unity Party and was elected president in the second round of voting on October 18, 2020, becoming the fifth president of Northern Cyprus. He has held this position since October 23, 2020.
