Fake messages about fines and road tolls sent to citizens
Minister of Transport and Public Works Erhan Arıklı warned residents about the spread of fake messages on social media sent on behalf of the Directorate of Highways.
According to the minister, fraudsters send notifications claiming that there are unpaid road tolls or fines in the system. These messages state that if payment is not made, administrative and legal measures will be taken. Recipients are urged to immediately pay the debt through an attached link in order to avoid punishment.
Arıklı emphasized that such mailings are not connected with state institutions and constitute fraud. He urged citizens not to click on suspicious links and not to provide personal data to unknown sources. The minister stated that he instructed the police and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTHK) to take measures to block such schemes.
One citizen who contacted the editorial office reported receiving exactly such a message. It used official wording and referred to “system records,” creating an impression of authenticity. However, the payment link led not to the official website of the authority, but to a suspicious resource.
The authorities call on citizens to verify all information only through official sources and to contact the police if they receive such notifications.
