KIB-TEK reports restoration of power plant operations and increased capacity
KIB-TEK (the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority) issued an official statement on the situation in the country’s energy system amid an outage at a thermal power plant and ongoing maintenance of diesel units.
The authority explained that due to a malfunction at the thermal station and a prolonged tender process for the procurement of spare parts, there was a risk of power shortages during peak demand hours. To prevent the impact of these problems on the population, alternative methods were used to cover demand.
It was reported that spare parts for the 60-megawatt thermal power plant, previously delayed in Istanbul due to adverse weather conditions, have already been delivered to the country. Installation and commissioning work has begun, and the plant is expected to be reconnected to the system on Tuesday morning.
At the same time, maintenance of diesel generators with a capacity of 17 megawatts each continues. Unit No. 4 has already been put into operation, and the launch of Unit No. 6 is scheduled for Friday. Once these works are completed, an additional 94 megawatts of generation capacity will be added to the overall energy system.
KIB-TEK emphasized that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure stable electricity supply and to minimize the risk of possible outages in the coming days.
