The realignment of forces in the Middle East is intensifying competition among global players and increasing the strategic importance of Cyprus. Against the backdrop of new conflicts and alliances, the region is becoming an arena for influence struggles between leading powers.

Key participants include the USA, the European Union, Israel, Russia, China, and Turkey. Recent events, including the escalation around Iran, highlight the instability and uncertainty in the region.

Against this background, Cyprus is seen as an important foothold for European security policy. EU countries are seeking to strengthen their presence around the island, given its role in relations with the USA, Israel, and Middle Eastern countries.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen previously stated the need to prevent the strengthening of China, Russia, and Turkey's influence in Europe. These words sparked active discussions, especially in Turkey, where such phrasing is perceived as a signal of growing rivalry.

Experts note that the EU is trying to maintain a balance of power in both economic and political spheres. At the same time, China is increasing influence through investments and infrastructure, Russia through energy and security, and Turkey thanks to its geographical location and regional ties.

Cyprus acquires special significance in this system of coordinates. For the EU, it is not only a regional partner but also part of its own territory, which intensifies attention to the Cyprus issue.

Analysts emphasize that the further development of the situation will depend on the ability of the parties to build multilateral relations in conditions of intensifying global competition.
