Turkish Cypriot Medical Association announces protest and demands resignation of Health Minister
The Turkish Cypriot Medical Association (KTTB) stated that tomorrow it will raise a black flag on the organization's building as a sign of protest against the approval of medical specializations without exams, oversight, and clear rules.
In an official statement, KTTB emphasized that, despite numerous warnings from the medical community, the authorities have opened the way to a system that ignores scientific principles, professional work, and endangers public health.
The association declared that it does not recognize any medical specialization issued before the creation of an effective and independent Medical and Dental Specialization Council.
Additionally, KTTB accused the Health Minister of betraying public health interests and officially called for his resignation.
The statement reads:
“As Turkish Cypriot doctors, we declare that the process opening the way to specialization without exams, oversight, and rules has reached an unacceptable point. We protest against the approach that ignores science, professional work, and public health. Until an independent Medical and Dental Specialization Council is established, we will not recognize any issued specialization and call on the Health Minister to resign.”
As part of the protest, on January 27, 2026 (Tuesday) at 13:00, a black flag will be raised on the KTTB building. The association invited media representatives and the medical community to join the action.
