KTGB launched the project “Think Before You Believe” in Northern Cyprus
On February 3, 2026, in Northern Cyprus, the Turkish Cypriot Journalists Association (KTGB) launched the educational project “Think Before You Believe”. The project received support from the UK High Commission; Associate Professor Huri Yontucu was appointed as coordinator, said the association’s chairman Efdal Keser.
The initiative aims to increase society’s resilience to disinformation in the digital age. As part of the project, educational activities, digital materials, and bi-communal events for both communities are planned.
In cooperation with Fact-Check Cyprus, advanced trainings for Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot journalists and a bi-communal roundtable are planned. Together with universities and municipalities, four training sessions will be organized in different regions, aimed at improving citizens’, NGOs’, trade unions’, and professional associations’ skills in recognizing false information.
KTGB will prepare a digital “Media Literacy Map”, publish educational video materials on identifying disinformation, media literacy, and artificial intelligence literacy, as well as on recognizing AI-generated content. The program will cover types of false information, manipulation techniques, the functioning of algorithms and bots, verification, critical thinking, and citizen journalism.
Training schedules, participation conditions, and published materials will be announced on the official KTGB website and its social media accounts.
