Nicosia and Izmir sign agreement to create sports parks
The Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality have signed a cooperation protocol aimed at establishing sports parks and recreational areas in Nicosia.
The agreement was signed by the Mayor of Nicosia, Mehmet Harmancı, and the Mayor of Izmir, Dr. Cemil Tugay, at the LTB Solidarity and Education Center.
According to Harmancı, the project will combine Izmir's experience in urban development with Nicosia's innovative solutions, creating a "bridge of technical and shared expertise."
Mayor Cemil Tugay stated that Izmir would provide practical support for the sports park project, enabling the youth of Northern Cyprus to access modern athletic facilities.
The goal of the partnership is to expand opportunities for sports and social activities among young people while improving the quality of the urban environment.
The project plans include creating sports parks and themed play zones, implementing modern surfacing, ensuring accessibility standards, and facilitating technical exchange between the two cities.
