Large-scale police raids in Nicosia and Iskele: more than 560 drivers fined

The TRNC police conducted simultaneous public order and traffic checks in Nicosia (Lefkoşa) and Iskele. During the night operation, which took place from 20:00 to midnight, entertainment venues, alcohol sales points, nightclubs, and crowded places were checked.

According to the police, traffic services checked a total of 3,368 drivers. 563 people were fined for various traffic violations, 123 cars were impounded, and two drivers were arrested.

In Nicosia, police officers checked 1,345 vehicles. As a result of the raids, 269 drivers were prosecuted. Among the most common violations were speeding, lack of insurance, driving without a license, using a mobile phone while driving, and unfastened seat belts. Vehicles without technical inspections and operating permits were also identified. In Nicosia, 56 cars were impounded, and one driver was arrested.

In Iskele, traffic police checked 2,023 drivers. Following the checks, 294 people were fined. Violations included speeding, drunk driving, lack of insurance, operating vehicles without technical inspection, and transporting passengers without an appropriate permit. Numerous other traffic violations were also recorded in this area.

The police emphasized that such operations will continue in order to ensure public safety, prevent offenses, and increase discipline on the country's roads.
