Newlyweds in Turkey will receive additional benefits and deferred payments

On September 8, 2025, following a Cabinet meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made an important announcement that will undoubtedly interest couples planning to marry. According to him, starting in January 2026, state support for young families will be expanded and significantly increased.
First of all, this concerns preferential loans. If both spouses are between 18 and 25 years old, the maximum loan amount will be 250,000 Turkish lira. In other cases, when one or both spouses are older than the specified age, the loan amount will be limited to 200,000 lira.
In addition, the president announced new benefits for families who become parents within the first 48 months after receiving the loan. In this case, when applying to the authorized authorities, the repayment period will be postponed by 12 months for each child.
Requirements for income level to qualify for the loan have also been changed. Previously, the average income over the last six months before applying had to be at least 2.3 times the minimum wage; now this threshold has been raised to 2.5 times.
Concluding his speech, Erdoğan emphasized that the measures aim to support the institution of the family and expressed his hope that they “bring benefit and happiness” to everyone planning to start a family.
