Museums in Northern Cyprus Open Their Doors for Free: TRNC Museum Week Program
International Museum Day will be celebrated in Northern Cyprus with free admission to all museums on Saturday, May 18.
This announcement came in a statement by Fikri Ataoğlu, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, in honor of Museum Week.
In order to safeguard global cultural heritage, promote museology, and enhance public awareness of the pivotal role museums play in social development, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) designated May 18 as International Museum Day.
In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, under the auspices of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, various events are held from May 18 to 24 as part of Museum Week.
As per the minister's statement, on May 18, International Museum Day, admission fees will be waived at all museums and archaeological sites managed by the Department of Antiquities.
Additionally, during Museum Week, special events are scheduled. On Monday, May 20, activities are tailored for students in grades 3 to 5 at the Dervish Pasha Mansion Museum in Nicosia.
Tuesday, May 21, will see a theatrical performance directed by Suzan Polat, an artist from the State Theater of Turkish Cypriots, specifically for 5th-grade students at the Luzignan House Museum in Nicosia.
On Wednesday, May 22, the Museum of National Struggle in Nicosia will host seven diverse workshops for 7th-grade students from middle schools, led by the Nicosia Science Workshop.
Simultaneously, the Museum of Archaeology and Nature in Güzelyurt will offer educational activities for university students on the same day.
