Man jailed for 1 month for killing a cat

Muhammet Sagban was sentenced to one month in prison for the cruel killing of a domestic cat using an illegal trap set in November 2023 in Yarköy. The incident sparked public outrage after Sagban shared his actions on social media.
Despite the defendant's attempts to justify himself, the court imposed a sentence. Animal rights activists see this as an important step in the fight against cruelty.
The "Golden Paws" association commented on the verdict as follows:
“This case caused widespread public outrage. Thousands of people took to the streets demanding fair punishment. While we believe one month in prison is insufficient, we are reassured that such crimes will face much stricter penalties in the future.
According to the new Criminal Code, those guilty of violence against animals will now face more serious consequences.
We will never forget the name Muhammet Sagban. A person who kills animals will never deserve society's forgiveness.
This case will become a symbol of our fight against cruelty. It is not just a court decision but a call to act until animal violence ends completely.”
