Tragedy in Istanbul: two-month-old baby dies, four relatives arrested

In the Fatih district of Istanbul on December 30, emergency services received a report that a two-month-old child was not breathing and showed no signs of life. Medical personnel who arrived confirmed the infant’s death.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the child was born on November 5 in a state hospital and was discharged healthy. However, by the time of death, the infant’s weight had dropped sharply, and alarming signs of malnutrition were detected on the body. The investigation also found that the mother contacted emergency services approximately 12 hours after the presumed time of death and gave conflicting statements, including that the baby had not been fed for several days.
As part of the case, the mother, the alleged father, and the grandparents living with the family were detained. The court arrested all four on charges of intentional homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
