A powerful downpour hit Alsancak and Lapta: lightning struck a transformer
Due to the heavy rainfall in Alsancak and Lapta, houses and roads were flooded. After lightning struck a transformer, a fire broke out.
The Governor of Kyrenia District, Jemal Ozdemoglu, reported that due to heavy rain, the water level in rivers rose, causing some houses to flood.
"Lightning struck the transformer, causing a fire. Municipal, civil defense, and fire brigade teams are operating in the region," wrote the district head.
Due to heavy rainfall and rising water levels, the main Lapta-Alsancak road is closed to traffic heading towards Kyrenia. Traffic is being managed from the Mare Monte junction.
According to a police spokesperson, the pedestrian underpass of the Kyrenia-Alsancak ring road is also closed due to flooding.
Additionally, due to rising river waters from heavy rain, the main road from Karşıyaka to Çamlıbel in the Geçitköy area is partially flooded.
The police urge drivers using these routes to exercise extreme caution.
