Northern Cyprus Unveils Richest Water Source in History
The TRNC Department of Geological and Mineral Resources has discovered the most abundant water source in the country's history. This breakthrough comes after a month of continuous research in the foothills of Çatalköy in the Beşparmak Mountains.
The source, which is 168 meters deep, boasts a flow rate of 80 tons per hour. Officially, it is the most productive well ever drilled in the Çatalköy aquifer within the Kyrenia mountain range.
"This remarkable discovery was made possible by the dedicated and ongoing efforts of the engineers and technical staff of the Department of Geological and Mineral Resources," stated a release from the department.
The discovery site has already been visited by the Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, along with the Director of the Department of Geological and Mineral Resources, Ayşen Albayrak.
Minister Ataoğlu emphasized that this is the richest water source ever found in the TRNC's history, which will greatly benefit the water needs of Çatalköy and neighboring villages. He also noted that similar exploratory work has begun in the Lapta region with the goal of finding another significant water source.
