A public meeting will be held in the municipality of Çatalköy – Esentepe to discuss the environmental and health impacts of toxic smoke emitted by the Teknecik Elektrik power station. The meeting is scheduled for today at 7:00 PM at MC Palace.

Mayor of Çatalköy — Esentepe, Ceyhun Kırok, announced the event, inviting the public to participate in the discussion.

“Dear residents of Çatalköy — Esentepe, I would like to inform you that on Wednesday, August 14, at 7:00 PM, we will hold a public meeting at MC Palace to discuss the environmental and health impacts of the toxic smoke emitted by the Teknecik Elektrik power station in our region. Following up on our previous calls, we will gather with experts and environmentalists to share important information. Your participation is vital, and I believe that by discussing this critical issue together, we can find better solutions,” stated the mayor.

In recent weeks, the black smoke released by the Teknecik Elektrik power station has noticeably thickened, sparking serious concerns for the health of nearby residents.

Representatives from the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Workers’ Union (EL-SEN) reported that the thick black smoke is caused by poor-quality fuel, which is nearly exhausted.

Additionally, regular maintenance has been hindered due to a lack of spare parts, contributing to increased emissions.
