2,576 drivers checked during nationwide raids in Northern Cyprus; 388 prosecuted
Traffic police crews of the Police Headquarters in Northern Cyprus checked 2,576 drivers during nationwide inspections yesterday. As a result, 388 drivers were brought to legal accountability, 58 vehicles were taken off the road, and three drivers were arrested.
According to the Police Press Office, the recorded violations included: 136 cases of speeding and 31 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol. There were also 5 cases of driving without a license and insurance, 8 without insurance, 11 using a mobile phone while driving, and 9 not wearing a seatbelt.
Separately noted were 4 vehicles without a valid inspection, 19 without a registration certificate, 26 operated without an A-category permit, 1 case of operating an electric scooter, 1 case of ignoring traffic lights, and 9 cases of tinted windows. In addition, 128 drivers were penalized for other violations.
Residents should be aware that such checks may result in fines, vehicle confiscation, and possible arrest in cases of serious offenses. Official information was published by the Press Office of the Police Headquarters.
