On Northern Cyprus, traffic checks identified 347 violators, 34 vehicles taken off the road
Traffic units of the General Directorate of Police in Northern Cyprus conducted large-scale traffic checks yesterday, January 2, 2026: 1,924 drivers were checked, 347 drivers were held administratively liable, and 34 vehicles were taken off the road.
According to official data, the main violations were distributed as follows: 181 drivers exceeded the permitted speed, 13 drivers operated vehicles under the influence of alcohol, 7 drove uninsured vehicles, 9 did not use seat belts, 12 operated vehicles without technical inspection, 17 operated vehicles without registration certificates, 2 violated passenger transport rules in public transport, 25 failed to comply with road signs and instructions, 2 installed tinting film that obstructed visibility, 1 used a vehicle with a muffler that did not meet requirements, and another 78 drivers were recorded for other violations.
For residents of Northern Cyprus, this means increased control on the roads and a higher risk of administrative sanctions for rule violations. The information was published by the General Directorate of Police.
