Drunk Driver Crashes into Bench with People in Northern Cyprus: One Person Killed
Another fatal accident due to a drunk driver occurred in the TRNC. A car crashed into a bench with two young people and ended up in the sea.
The horrific accident happened this past weekend on Ecevit Street in Gemikonağı. At around 2 a.m., a 22-year-old driver was driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding. He lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and plowed into a bench on the sidewalk where two young people were sitting. The car then struck a light pole and plunged into the sea from a height of about 3.5 meters.
One of the young people sitting on the bench at the time of the accident, 26-year-old Navid Akbar, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cengiz Topel Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he could not be saved.
The driver, a 21-year-old female passenger, and the second young person on the bench were also injured in the crash. All three were taken to Cengiz Topel Hospital.
The drunk driver, who caused the fatal accident, was arrested after being discharged from the hospital. A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
