In Northern Cyprus, Geçitkale scrap yard fire: two arrested
Yesterday at noon in Geçitkale, Northern Cyprus, a fire broke out at a scrap yard, resulting in the police detaining two individuals.
According to the police, M.D. (54) and I.Y. (38), while cutting scrap vehicles with an angle grinder, produced sparks that ignited the front seat of one of the vehicles, causing the fire.
Fire brigades, the Forestry Department, the district municipality, and military personnel intervened promptly and brought the fire under control. The fire damaged approximately 200 square meters of dry grass, various scrap materials, and one scrap vehicle.
M.D. and I.Y. were arrested. According to the police, the investigation into the incident continues.
