Drugs and document forgery: series of arrests in Famagusta and Girne
Two people were detained in Famagusta during a police anti-drug operation, the law enforcement press service reports.
The operation was carried out on Beyoğlu Street by units of the crime prevention department. Approximately 135 grams of a substance, presumably methamphetamine, were found and seized in the car of one of the suspects.
During a further investigation, a search was conducted at the home of the second person involved in the case. Police found items indicating possible possession and use of drugs: a small amount of methamphetamine, a rolled cigarette suspected of containing cannabis, electronic scales with traces of the substance, a glass pipe, and mouthpieces. Both suspects were arrested.
In parallel, a man wanted in connection with a forged rental agreement case was detained in Girne. According to the investigation, the document may have been used for the illegal resumption of electricity supply.
Separately, the police reported two more detentions as part of nationwide checks. One person was arrested for residing illegally without a valid legal status.
In Famagusta, a man without a permanent place of residence or income was also detained — he was arrested for vagrancy after a check on the street.
Police are continuing to investigate all incidents, not excluding new arrests and a possible expansion of the drug crime case.
