An unknown grave and 46 years of waiting
In Northern Cyprus, a tragic story that lasted almost half a century has come to light. For many years, a woman visited one of the nameless graves, lighting candles and praying, unaware that her missing husband was buried there.
As it turned out 46 years later, the unknown grave where she regularly stopped did indeed belong to her husband, who had been considered missing since the time of the conflict. Only after identification procedures were carried out was it possible to establish the identity of the deceased and confirm his burial.
This story once again reminded of dozens of families who still live in ожидание answers, having neither a grave nor official confirmation of the fate of their loved ones. For the heroine of this story, the truth became both a relief and a new pain — but the waiting that lasted for decades finally came to an end.
