Museum Week Program Announced in Northern Cyprus
The Department of Antiquities and Museums of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has announced the official program for Museum Week. From May 18 to 24, a wide range of free events—including concerts, exhibitions, and lectures—will take place across the country. During this period, entry to all museums and historical sites in Northern Cyprus will also be free of charge.
The celebrations will kick off on May 19, coinciding with Atatürk Remembrance, Youth and Sports Day. At 7:30 p.m., the Bellapais Monastery Exhibition Hall will host the opening of a “Mixed Workshop Exhibition”, featuring artworks by members of the Luna Tülay Okan Art House. The exhibition will remain open to the public free of charge from May 20 to 22 during regular visiting hours.
From May 20 to 24, schools throughout the TRNC will participate in the “Getting to Know Our Museums” initiative. These educational presentations are designed to introduce students to the country's museum collections and historical heritage. The program will start at primary schools in Famagusta and continue across other districts.
On Wednesday, May 22, a concert titled “Ancient Melodies in the Museum” will be held at Bellapais Abbey. The event is organized in collaboration with the State Opera and Ballet Coordination Center and the Department of Antiquities and Museums.
On Thursday, May 23, at 11:30 a.m., a “Musical Conversation” featuring Emine Ziba, Director of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, will take place at the Cornice House in Nicosia.
Later that day at 5:00 p.m., a new section of Kyrenia Castle will be unveiled, featuring a Hieroglyphic Stone Anchor from the Early Bronze Age, which will be exhibited for the first time.
The Museum Week celebrations will conclude on Saturday, May 24, with the grand opening of the Lefke Mining Museum at 8:00 p.m. All events are open to the public and free to attend.
