Turkish Cypriot Politician Denied Entry into Turkey
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Social Democratic Party (TDP), Evrim Hincal, was denied entry into Turkey. The Turkish Cypriot politician was not allowed into Istanbul and was assigned the code N82, which designates individuals considered a threat to national security, making them subject to deportation and barred from re-entering the country.
The politician of Turkish descent shared details of the incident on his social media page.
According to Evrim Hincal, he, along with his brother and families, had planned a short family vacation to Turkey. They had scheduled the trip to Istanbul a month prior. The politician confessed that he had not been on vacation for three years prior to this trip due to the birth of his daughter in 2020 and the subsequent pandemic.
Two families arrived at Sabiha Gökçen Airport at 10:40 in the morning. The politician's brother and his family, as well as the politician's spouse with their daughter, passed through passport control smoothly, but Evrim Hincal was denied entry into the country because his name appeared on the prohibited list “N82.” The reason for the denial of entry to Turkey was not explained to him, with advice to contact the TRNC consulate.
“We tried to contact the relevant authorities; I sought assistance from our government officials, but unfortunately, we were sent back to our country along with my family on a flight at 18:40,” shared the democrat.
According to the politician, some of his party colleagues had previously encountered similar difficulties when entering the Republic of Turkey.
“Some of my friends have long-faced similar challenges when entering the Turkish Republic. We once again see and feel that this unpleasant situation is a problem that needs to be addressed,” emphasized the politician.
He also noted that he plans to discuss this situation with his lawyer and resort to the necessary legal procedures because “every person in the world has a natural right to travel.”
Earlier, the newspaper “Yenidüzen” reported that six more TRNC citizens were denied entry into Turkey for the same reasons.
