TRNC government prepares to revoke decree on 'cost of living'
According to data from the TRNC Republican Assembly, the government is preparing to revoke the decree related to the cost-of-living compensation.
At the same time, the new scheme is expected to be adopted directly through parliament, without referring the issue to a technical committee as demanded by the unions.
Under the model being discussed, it is planned to pay about 50% of the cost-of-living increase based on gross salary. However, sources note that workers may actually receive only about a third of the real increase, with the remainder potentially deferred to January 2027.
Amid ongoing strikes and protests outside the parliament building, unions continue to demand the full revocation of the decree and a review of the decision through a negotiation process.
