Trade unions continue general strike — tomorrow at 09:00 at the Parliament in Nicosia
Trade unions have announced that the general strike in Northern Cyprus will continue and will begin tomorrow at 09:00 at the Parliament building in Nicosia.
In a statement, the unions said that the coalition government of the National Unity Party, the Democratic Party, and the Rebirth Party has reopened Parliament while ignoring public demands to eliminate or freeze price hikes. According to the unions, the government is "imposing a heavy burden" on minimum wage earners, workers, the poor, and fixed-income earners, and is the main cause of the current crisis.
The unions emphasized their determination to continue mass actions and stated their intention to defy strike bans in specific locations by resorting to civil disobedience. The call also includes an appeal to all citizens and "true patriots" to join the protest.
Residents are advised to consider potential disruptions to public services and transport in Nicosia and central areas during the morning hours, as well as to avoid the area around the Parliament until the gathering ends. Official statements from the unions and local authorities will provide additional information.
