Five Bangladeshi citizens detained for illegal residence in Northern Cyprus
In Lefkoşa, Northern Cyprus, on September 21, 2025, police detained five Bangladeshi citizens during a search of a residential apartment on Bedreddin Demirel Caddesi, who were staying in the territory without authorization.
The search was conducted by the Lefkoşa Police Department, judicial unit, with the participation of special forces. Among 29 Bangladeshi citizens checked, it was found that S.R. (E-38) had lived without authorization for 540 days since 30.03.2024; S.D.J.S.D. (E-33) — 375 days since 11.09.2024; M.R. (E-32) — 37 days since 15.08.2025; M.D. M.R. (E-37) — 18 days since 04.08.2025; S.H. (E-24) — 750 days since 03.08.2023.
The police reported that the legal status of the remaining 24 individuals was confirmed. An investigation has been initiated, and deportation procedures are planned for the detainees; the investigation requested an extension of custody for three days.
Judge Şevket Gazi approved the request and ordered the detainees to be held in custody for three days.
