Northern Cyprus to honor Atatürk: ceremonies and moments of silence across the country on November 10

On November 10, marking the 87th anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk — the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey — commemorative ceremonies will be held across the island.
Northern Cyprus, together with Turkey, will traditionally join the national mourning: at 09:05 sirens will sound across the country, citizens will pause for a minute of silence, and flags will be lowered to half-mast.

Main ceremony — in Nicosia

In the capital, the event will begin at 09:02 at the Atatürk monument. After the laying of wreaths, a minute of silence will be observed and the Turkish national anthem will be played.
President Tufan Erhürman, the ambassador of Turkey to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, and the commander of the Peace Forces General Sebahattin Kılınç will honor the leader by signing the remembrance book.

Afterward, a formal program will take place at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), beginning at 09:30.
The president Erhürman, Minister of Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, as well as representatives of the Turkish Embassy and the Peace Forces will speak.
The musical part will be performed by the Nicosia Fine Arts High School choir, and the ceremony will conclude with a literary-musical performance — an oratorio in memory of Atatürk.

Tributes across Northern Cyprus

Ceremonies will also take place in all regions of the country: Kyrenia, Famagusta, İskele, Güzelyurt, Lefke, Akdoğan, Geçitkale, and Mehmetçik.

• In Kyrenia, the ceremony will begin at 08:55 at the Atatürk monument.

• In Famagusta — at the Victory Memorial at 08:50, featuring speeches by teachers and military representatives, and poems recited by students.

• In İskele, the ceremony will take place at Ecevit Square at 08:45, where kindergarten and school children will perform literary presentations.

• In Güzelyurt and Lefke, the programs include poetry readings and student performances about Atatürk’s legacy.

• In Akdoğan, Geçitkale, and Mehmetçik, wreath-laying ceremonies, moments of silence, and school choir performances will take place at 09:00.

Sports events

As part of the Day of Remembrance, the Taekwondo Federation will hold the Kırış tournament in Kyrenia, starting at 16:00 at the Eurasian Taekwondo Center.
