Strong Winds Damage Traffic Lights and Stadium Fencing in Northern Cyprus
Strong winds that hit Northern Cyprus following a warning from the meteorological service have caused damage in several areas.
On the Lefkoşa–Girne highway in the Boğazköy area, strong gusts damaged a traffic light—one of the signals partially broke off and was hanging. Police and technical services arrived at the scene and promptly fixed the malfunction. Traffic at the intersection was briefly obstructed.
The aftermath of the storm was also recorded at the Gönyeli Stadium during the Gönyeli vs. Alsancak Yeşilova match. Due to the high winds, a metal fence behind the substitutes' bench tilted, creating a potentially dangerous situation.
The Meteorological Department had previously warned that northern and eastern winds could strengthen to 62–74 km/h. Adverse weather conditions are forecasted to persist until Sunday.
Experts also warned of possible heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, strong gusts, and local flooding, urging residents to exercise caution.
