Student Ordered to Post 200,000 Lira Bail in Taxi Fraud Case
In Nicosia, a Nigerian student accused of defrauding a taxi driver of 6,000 Turkish Liras appeared in court and was released on bail.
According to police, an unknown individual contacted the driver via WhatsApp and requested a taxi from the Nicosia industrial zone to Kyrenia. Later, he convinced the driver to transfer 6,000 liras to a bank account, promising payment in British pounds.
After the money transfer, the passenger traveled to Kyrenia and paid the driver 200 pounds, claiming he knew nothing about the 6,000 lira transfer. The driver then realized he had been a victim of fraud and contacted the police.
The investigation established that the money was received into the account of a 22-year-old student, who was detained on March 4.
The court ordered his release on a bail of 200,000 liras and prohibited him from leaving the country until the end of the proceedings.
