The court released on bail a Russian woman arrested in a fake diploma case
In Northern Cyprus, the court released Anastasia Morozova, a Russian national previously arrested as part of an investigation into fake diplomas, on bail. The woman is suspected of obtaining fake certificates from the Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTÜ).
During a court hearing at the Nicosia District Court, it was revealed that the police received information from KSTÜ staff that the suspect was enrolled in the university on September 10, 2019. However, according to documents, she allegedly graduated from the nursing faculty in just one day on November 4, 2023, completing 67 courses simultaneously.
On April 25 of this year, the police conducted a search in the suspect's apartment but did not find any diploma or other documents. According to a police officer, the woman confessed that she got scared and gave her diploma to a neighbor, where the document was eventually found. The woman was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, it was found that the suspect became a member of the Cyprus Turkish Midwives and Nurses Association by presenting a fake document on December 11, 2023.
The police stated that the accused admitted to never attending the university or attending any classes, and that she received the diploma from Serdal Gündüz, who is currently in prison in connection with this case.
Based on the police testimonies, the judge ordered the suspect not to leave the country. The woman must appear in court twice a week. She was granted bail in the amount of 250,000 TL and required a surety of one million TL.
Recall that the scandal with fake diplomas erupted in Northern Cyprus earlier this year. Many government officials and officials have been detained and arrested on suspicion of obtaining fraudulent education documents.
