The Republic of Turkey plans to boost trade volumes with the TRNC. This was announced during the Second Economic Conference Turkey-TRNC.

The event, held at the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in Istanbul, discussed trade sustainability, current issues, and the potential for economic cooperation between the two countries. The conference was organized by the Turkey-TRNC Chamber of Commerce Forum.

According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the conference opened with speeches from TRNC Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu, Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gürcan, and President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.

"The Turkey-TRNC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Forum" is dedicated to strengthening bilateral trade relations and improving the investment climate.

The Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade noted significant achievements in trade with the TRNC, reaching $2.5 billion in volume in 2023. He expressed the intention not only to increase trade volume in the coming years but also to expand the share of Northern Cyprus in trade turnover.

Mahmut Gürcan emphasized that Turkey intends to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, reflecting deeply rooted brotherly bonds, and their main goal is to accelerate the socio-economic development of Cyprus and achieve international recognition of the independence and sovereignty of Turkish Cypriots.

Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, in turn, also confirmed his support for the integration of the TRNC on the world stage and the country's representation in international organizations.

The President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, Turgay Deniz, in his speech, emphasized the chamber's great importance to the development of Turkey-TRNC relations. The work carried out in this direction is supported by the governments of both countries.

"We see that our joint efforts with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey are beginning to yield results. I believe that in the near future, we will achieve much better results. We expect that the gross domestic product of the TRNC, which was only $210 million in 1977, will reach around $4 billion in 2024," emphasized Turgay Deniz.
