Since the beginning of 2024, 834 individuals have been deported from Northern Cyprus. Efforts persist in the TRNC to establish a migration center.

During the "Private Square" program, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the TRNC, Dursun Oguz, made significant statements on this matter. According to the Minister, the state spent approximately 6 million Turkish lira on tickets for the deported citizens.

In 2023, 1,700 individuals were expelled from the country. Among them, 293 were citizens of the Republic of Turkey, and 1,453 were citizens of other countries. The state paid 19,387,000 Turkish lira for their tickets.

The Minister reminded that currently, a "transit visa" is used for entry into the country.

"From July 1, 2023, to May 28, 2024, we did not admit a total of 5,343 individuals into the country. Among them, 407 people were citizens of the Republic of Turkey, and 4,936 were citizens of third countries," said the Minister.

Presently, transit visas are applied to 47 countries, excluding European ones. It is expected that an electronic visa will soon be operational, and the number of countries to which it will apply will be determined by the Council of Ministers.

Dursun Oguz also added that work continues in the TRNC to establish a "Migration Center" to determine the total number of unregistered individuals in the country.

At present, the building of the future center and internal equipment are ready. The stage of software development is ongoing. Additionally, future employees have been sent for training in Turkey.

"As soon as all processes are completed, the 'Migration Center' will be fully operational," concluded the Minister.
