Attorney for Greek Cypriots Murad Metin Hakki detained at Ercan Airport
A new development has emerged in the case related to the detention of Greek Cypriots in Iskele — the police have arrested their lawyer, Murad Metin Hakki.
Hakki was detained at Ercan Airport upon returning to Northern Cyprus. According to the investigation, the lawyer is suspected of involvement in actions considered within the case of Greek Cypriots arrested in July for illegal entry and interference in property matters.
Recall that earlier five Greek Cypriot citizens were detained in the Iskele area on charges of violating private property boundaries and possibly using personal data without permission. Their lawyer was Murad Metin Hakki, but now the lawyer himself is under investigation.
Court hearings for the detained Greek Cypriots have been postponed several times. Yesterday’s session was also delayed due to the health condition of one of the defendants, who required hospitalization. A new hearing date has been set for September 10, 2025.
The police have not yet disclosed details of the lawyer’s detention. It is only known that he will be questioned within the main case, as well as on separate circumstances related to his activities.
The case continues to cause wide public resonance as it touches on sensitive issues of property and citizens’ rights in Northern Cyprus.
