Degirmenlik–Akçıncalar Launch Group Activities for People with Alzheimer's Disease

The Degirmenlik–Akçıncalar Municipality, through the Health and Social Support Department, is launching the "Group Activity for Alzheimer's Disease" program for individuals with a corresponding diagnosis.

According to the municipality, the sessions will start on Monday. Registration is open until Friday by calling 1198.

Activities will take place at the Health and Social Support Department in Meriç twice a week: on Mondays at 09:30 and on Wednesdays at 13:30.

The organizers emphasize that participants will be provided with a supportive, safe, and non-judgmental environment. The program will be adapted according to the individual needs and stage of the disease of each participant.

The head of the department, Laden Serinsu, noted that the goal of the program is to support the emotional, social, and cognitive well-being of people with Alzheimer's disease. According to her, structured group sessions are not therapeutic in nature but help participants feel more confident, maintain social connections, remain more active in daily life, and improve quality of life.

As part of the program, support will be provided for memory and skills related to daily activities, development of orientation in time and space, preservation of fine and gross motor skills, eye–hand coordination, communication skills, as well as reducing feelings of loneliness, strengthening self-esteem, and creating opportunities for enjoyable and meaningful social interaction.
