35 kilograms of meat seized in Nicosia after butcher shop inspections

The Veterinary Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources conducted inspections of butcher shops ahead of the festive period. Following the inspections, one business was fined, and two others received official warnings.

According to the department, the inspections were carried out by the public health unit in the Nicosia district. Inspectors visited a total of 11 butcher shops.

At one of the establishments, 35 kilograms of meat and meat products were found stored in unsanitary conditions or lacking necessary labeling. All products were confiscated and destroyed.

Administrative sanctions were applied to the business owners in accordance with current legislation. They were also given a deadline to rectify the identified violations.

Two other businesses were issued warnings for less serious violations. The owners were given three working days to correct the deficiencies.

The Veterinary Department emphasized that inspections of butcher shops and catering establishments will continue across the country in an intensified mode due to the upcoming holidays.
