In Famagusta, a torchlight procession was held in honor of the Angel-Champions
Thousands of people marched with torches under the slogan "Shed Light on Justice." Participants chanted, "Isiada is our common cause" and demanded that those responsible for the consequences of the earthquake in Turkey be brought to justice.
The march, organized by the Association of Angel-Champions, was attended by the President of TRNC, Ersin Tatar. The leader of Northern Cyprus walked with the column from the Turkish Maarif College in Famagusta to the Victory Monument.
Ministers, deputies, representatives of political parties, students, and families of those who died during the earthquake also took part in the event. During the procession, torches formed the word "Justice." At the end of the march, the torches were left at the Victory Monument.
Participants of the procession demanded that the 11 defendants face trial in the case of the collapse of the "Isias" hotel, which was destroyed by the earthquake on February 6, resulting in the death of 72 people, 35 of whom were from TRNC. The trial is expected to begin soon in Adiyaman.
The term "Angel-Champions" refers to members of the teenage volleyball team from Famagusta who died in the earthquake in Turkey on February 6. The bodies of 34 people were extracted from the rubble.
Young athletes aged 12-14, their parents, and several teachers arrived for a volleyball tournament in Adiyaman just a couple of days before the tragedy. Only four parents and the school's deputy director survived the earthquake.
