Arson uncovered in Famagusta: three detained, drugs found on one suspect

An intentional arson attack was carried out today at around 15:35 in the Kaliland area of Famagusta. According to police, unknown individuals poured a flammable substance on a water cabinet (su kabini) and the floor in front of the entrance to a commercial premises on the ground floor of a residential building, and then set it on fire.
The fire extinguished itself; however, the incident was recorded by police, after which a large-scale investigation was launched.
During investigative actions, three suspects were detained:
- N.A. (41 years old)
- F.A. (45 years old)
- Z.B.E. (39 years old)
As part of the further investigation, police established that F.A. and Z.B.E. were also involved in another incident that occurred on January 15, 2026, in the Vadili area. At that time, the suspects doused a car tire with a flammable substance, set it alight, and threw it toward the entrance door of a residential building, thereby attempting to commit arson.
In addition, during a search of the home of N.A., who was detained in connection with the arson case, officers of the Anti-Drugs and Smuggling Department discovered:
- 13 paper fragments presumably containing a synthetic cannabinoid,
- a hand-rolled cigarette with tobacco mixed with a substance of a presumably narcotic nature.
All items were seized as material evidence.
The investigation is ongoing; police are examining possible links between the incidents and the role of each detainee.
