From January 2, the second stage of the large-scale reconstruction of İsmet İnönü Avenue (Salamis Road) will begin in Gazimağusa. The total cost of the project amounts to 66 million Turkish lira.

Of this amount, 20 million lira will be financed by the Turkish Development and Economic Cooperation Administration, while the remaining sum will be covered by the Famagusta Municipality.

The works will take place on the section between the Sakarya junction and the so-called “water ring.” The project includes a complete replacement of sidewalks, renewal of electrical and telephone infrastructure, installation of stormwater drainage, curbs, as well as the laying of concrete paving stones and decorative surfaces.

During construction, traffic will be maintained in both directions; however, parking along the avenue will be temporarily prohibited. Drivers will be offered alternatives — parking near the Osman Fazıl Polat Pasha Mosque and a new parking area in the Sakarya district.

The first stage of the project was completed back in 2018. The final point of the reconstruction will be the area near the UN peacekeeping forces camp. It is expected that all works will take about one year.

The municipality уточняет, that the start of the works was postponed to January 2 in order not to interfere with commercial activity during the pre-New Year period. The tender was completed in August 2025, and the contractor began preparations in autumn.

It is also reported that the parking area in the Sakarya district is already fully completed — with 100 parking spaces. Despite a contractual period of 120 days, the facility was delivered ahead of schedule — in 90 days.
