Kyrenia to Revitalize the Historic Old Salhane District
After years of neglect, the Kyrenia Municipality has announced plans to restore and reopen the Old Salhane district, transforming it into a vibrant public space. Mayor Murat Şenkul described the area as one of the most beautiful locations in the Mediterranean.
Sharing details of the ambitious project on social media, the mayor emphasized its significance:
“We are creating not just one of the most beautiful spots in our country, but perhaps in the entire Mediterranean. Our goal is to bring this historic area back to life and open it to the public.”
What’s Planned for the Revitalized Area?
The project will include:
A youth center
An open-air co-working space
Kyrenia’s historic “Karakız” Coffee House
Four commercial buildings for cafés, pastry shops, and similar businesses, to be leased through a public tender
A new parking area
A public square designed for community events and gatherings
Additionally, the revitalized district will be linked to Kyrenia’s Ancient Harbor and Kordonboyu via pedestrian walkways, seamlessly integrating it into the city’s cultural and social fabric.
