Two workers injured in falls from height in Iskele and near Serdarlı
Two workplace accidents occurred in Northern Cyprus on the same day — in Iskele and the Serdarlı area. Both incidents involved workers falling from heights.
According to police, the first case occurred around 14:30 at a residential complex in Iskele. Ahmed Butt, a 38-year-old worker, was attempting to free a stuck drilling rig cable while digging a well when he lost his balance and fell approximately 3.8 meters to the ground.
The victim was taken to Famagusta State Hospital, where he was diagnosed with fractured ribs and spine. He was later transferred to the Near East Hospital in Yeniboğaziçi, where he remains under observation.
The second incident happened at approximately 15:00 on the Iskele – Ercan highway, in the Serdarlı area. Mehmet Yılmaz, 41, was working on the roof of a building under construction, installing sandwich panels. He lost his balance and fell about 8 meters onto a concrete surface.
The man was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia. He was diagnosed with spinal and right ankle fractures. Following surgery, he remains under observation in the neurosurgery department.
Police are investigating both incidents.
