Migrant in Northern Cyprus paid wages after public outcry
A Pakistani worker in Northern Cyprus was able to receive his unpaid wages only after government intervention and public outcry.
The case involves a migrant who was fired without notice and was not paid the money he had earned. Thirty-four days after his dismissal, he was finally informed that he could collect his payment.
Following media coverage and the involvement of state authorities, the employer paid the man over 37,000 Turkish Liras.
The worker admitted that without the media publicity, he likely would never have received his money.
Furthermore, the situation was complicated by the fact that, due to local laws, he risked falling into illegal status. However, a declared migration amnesty allowed him to apply and remain in the country legally.
The story has sparked widespread debate, raising concerns about the exploitation of foreign workers and the need for stricter oversight of employers.
