Reconstruction of the waterfront has begun in Kyrenia
Repair work has begun on the seaside promenade in Kyrenia. Mayor Murat Shenkul announced the start of the reconstruction.
In his social media message, the mayor stated that this area has been awaiting major repairs for many years and added that when the work is completed, Northern Cyprus will have a "completely unique public space."
"We will not allow the ugliness of our country's politics to bring us to despair. We would like to announce that work has begun on the Kyrenia Corniche, which has been awaiting major repairs for many years. The waterfront is beautiful in every way, but when the work in progress is completed, our country will have a completely unique public space," wrote the mayor.
It is worth noting that the ancient harbor of Kyrenia reopened after a year-long reconstruction in December of last year. Restoration work on the port began on December 1, 2022. Initially, the work was planned to be completed in May, then the opening date of the updated harbor was postponed to September, and then to early October.
This week, it was announced that umbrellas will be installed in the ancient harbor for tourists and traders. The latter complained about the lack of infrastructure that could protect people from rain and hail. Tourists in local cafes are forced to get wet in the rain.
