The Lefkoşa Municipality (LTB) has announced the upcoming completion of the material supply phase within a large-scale project to modernize the city’s main sewer collector.

The total cost of the project amounts to 82 million Turkish lira (approximately €1.6 million). The works are being implemented in stages.

The first phase was completed in 2024 in the Dereboyu area, where 764 meters of a worn-out sewer line containing asbestos were replaced. The old infrastructure was dismantled and replaced with a modern system that meets current safety standards.

The second phase of the project is planned for the Haspolat area. As part of this stage, a section approximately 2 kilometers long — from the buffer zone to the wastewater treatment facilities — will be upgraded. The municipality noted that the implementation of the project will help reduce environmental risks and ensure the city’s long-term need for reliable infrastructure.

LTB emphasized that upgrading the sewerage system is an important part of the strategy to create a safe, sustainable, and modern urban environment.
