Two Tons of Fresh Meat Seized Near the Green Line
Customs Department officials have stopped the illegal transport of two tons of fresh meat from the Republic of Cyprus to the TRNC through an unauthorized crossing point.
A commercial truck carrying the meat was intercepted in the area of the Green Line, which divides the two parts of the island.
According to the police, a large quantity of fresh meat was discovered in the truck, which had been stopped by a police patrol at the Green Line. The meat was being transported from an unauthorized crossing point to the northern part of the island. Customs and Veterinary Service officials were called to the scene for further investigation.
The Veterinary Service seized over two tons of fresh meat due to its lack of proper labeling and inadequate transport conditions, as it was carried in an unapproved or unlicensed vehicle.
The truck was confiscated by Customs for attempting to cross the border into the TRNC through an unauthorized point, in violation of the Green Line Regulations.
Later, the vehicle was returned to the owner with a compensation payment of 200 euros and an additional 500 euros from the driver as part of an out-of-court settlement.
