President of the USA, Joe Biden, has signed a law banning the Chinese social network TikTok in the country. Earlier, the decision was approved by both houses of Congress.

According to the document signed by the American president, the owner company of the short video viewing service now has 270 days to sell its business in the USA.

If within 9 months the Chinese technology company ByteDance does not divest the asset, TikTok will be permanently blocked in America. Moreover, the law includes a provision that allows the President of the USA to extend this deadline by an additional three months.

Earlier, a law allowing the popular youth service to be banned in the USA was approved by both houses of Congress. After the decision was made by the House of Representatives, TikTok representatives stated that it violates freedom of speech.

"Unfortunately, the House of Representatives, hiding behind the importance of foreign and humanitarian aid, once again pushed through a ban project that tramples on the right to freedom of speech of 170 million Americans," TikTok said in a statement.

A few minutes after the law was signed by Joe Biden, the company announced that they would challenge this decision in court.

"Rest assured - we won't go anywhere. Facts and the constitution are on our side, and we expect to win again," said TikTok CEO, Shou Zi Chew.
