Two new fig varieties and one grape variety have been registered in the TRNC

The Agricultural Research Institute of the TRNC has announced that two new fig varieties and one grape variety have been registered in the country for the first time.

In a written statement by the institute, it is mentioned that the first fig variety, selected from the local black fig, has been named "Island Black", while the second variety, selected from the white fig varieties known as "Andolina", has been registered as "Island Delight".

The new grape variety has been registered as "Island Pearl", which was selected from local white grape varieties.

The cultivation of seedlings of the registered varieties will begin in 2025.

The statement also mentions that research continues for the registration of another grape variety, fig, carob tree, and olive in 2025.

"Island Pearl" is a white table grape variety, wine-making, used for the production of Zivania, with fruits ripening from the first week of August, and average cluster density.

"Island Black" fig is easily peeled, late ripening (from the second week of November), with medium-sized fruits.

"Island Delight" (Island Delight) fig - easily peeled, has very late ripening (from the first week of December), and is very lightweight.
