Second Meeting on March 17 Reforestation Preparations Held at Presidential Palace

The Presidential Palace hosted the second coordination meeting with municipalities to prepare for the tree-planting and reforestation campaign scheduled for March 17 under the President's patronage.
Nilden Bektaş Erhürman, wife of TRNC President Tufan Erhürman, participated in the meeting. Along with representatives from the Forestry Department, the Union of Cyprus Turkish Municipalities, municipal staff, and members of the Presidential Environmental and Climate Council, practical steps for the project's implementation were discussed.
The primary focus was organizing cooperation with municipalities to identify planting sites, ensure irrigation, and provide machinery, transport, and necessary personnel.
According to Nilden Bektaş Erhürman, most municipalities responded positively after the first meeting. She emphasized that feedback from local authorities, who are key partners in the initiative, will help create a clear roadmap.
The Presidency and the Forestry Department have already identified potential areas for reforestation. Negotiations are also underway with relevant institutions and potential sponsors for the project's further development.
The meeting was attended by Forestry Department representatives led by Director Ercan Poyraz, the Union of Municipalities, the Institute of Public Research, and representatives from municipalities including Nicosia, Girne, Famagusta, Lefke, Iskele, Dikmen, and others.
Presidential Advisor on Environmental Affairs İbrahim Alkan and members of the Presidential Environmental and Climate Council were also present.
