Power Outage During Football Final in TRNC
During the final match of one of the football leagues in Northern Cyprus, the lights went out, creating a noteworthy situation given the presence of TRNC President Ersin Tatar at the game.
The incident occurred on July 27 during the football match between “Dogancı” and “Gaziveren,” held at the “Lefke Karadağ August 16” stadium.
During the game, the lights went out at the stadium. The match was interrupted for several minutes, but soon resumed. According to some media reports, the incident caused dissatisfaction among fans, who allegedly expressed their complaints to the President of Northern Cyprus about the brief power outage. However, Ersin Tatar denied these claims, calling them fake.
“Yesterday, I was at the Gaziveren — Dogancı derby, which was attended by about 5,000 people. I saw and felt the genuine love of all citizens, regardless of their political views, whether right or left. I did not encounter any protests due to the 2-3 minute power outage. This is completely unrealistic news. These are fake news intended to cause political contradictions,” said the President of TRNC.
The Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK) also commented on the power outage during the important match. The energy officials asserted that the incident was not related to the resource supplier and was caused by a technical malfunction at the stadium.
“On July 27, 2024, during the final match between 'Dogancı' and 'Gaziveren' at the 'Lefke Karadağ August 16' stadium, a power outage occurred due to a malfunction in the stadium's internal systems. We would like to inform the public that the incident has no connection to KIB-TEK,” stated the energy officials.
After the electricity was restored, the game continued. The match ended with Gaziveren's victory by a narrow margin of 0-1.
